In 2016, Congress appropriated funding for multiple Federal Courthouse construction projects in the GSA Southeast Sunbelt Region.

Funds were allocated for the design and construction of a new U.S. Courthouse Annex and the repair and alteration of the Charles R. Jonas Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Charlotte, North Carolina. The project will consist of a 198,000 GSF new annex building,  renovation of the existing 134,438 GSF Charles R. Jonas U.S. Courthouse, and approximately 83 inside parking spaces.
