This summer, CGL welcomed a new construction management intern, Bennett Yerkey. Bennett is a construction management major at Georgia Southern University with plans to graduate in May 2021. Working remotely from Atlanta, his main project was collaborating with the Wayne County project team on the new $600 million justice complex in Detroit, Michigan.

Engaging in a virtual internship presented Bennett some challenges that he was able to overcome with help from IT and the on-site project team.

Reflecting on valuable lessons, Bennett said, “The best thing I learned from working from home is to have a set schedule for when to do work and when to be on calls, and to try to stick to it as much as possible so that you can get into a rhythm.”

Bennett has been a tremendous help to the Wayne County project team. He assisted the team with document organization and designed and implemented a customized SharePoint project site for use by the full team.

“Our full project team has enjoyed Bennett’s pleasant personality and initiative in all situations.  Many of his efforts the past summer will continue to support our project teams across the nation as he returns to Georgia Southern this fall.” – Rick Davidson, Director of Owner Representation

CGL’s internship program is designed to provide college students with firsthand knowledge and experience working on justice facilities construction projects.

“Working with CGL gave me a look at the professional side of the construction process. From day one, I was impressed with the level of respect and professionalism this company and its employees exhibit.” Bennett said.

CGL is grateful for Bennett’s hard work and dedication. We wish him the best of luck in his final year at Georgia Southern University.
