Officials Break Ground on New Catonsville District Courthouse
Maryland Department of General Services officially broke ground today on the new Catonsville District Courthouse in Baltimore, a project that has been in the works for more than a decade.
Maryland Lt. Governor Boyd K. Rutherford gave the keynote address at the groundbreaking ceremony to an audience of local government officials, members of the Judiciary, and project team members, including CGL Executive Vice President and Director of Design Frank Greene, FAIA. Rutherford spoke on the importance of projects like the new courthouse for job creation as well as providing improved services to Maryland’s citizens.
Projected to open in March 2019, the 130,000-square-foot facility will have eight court rooms and house four state judicial agencies, increasing the public’s access to justice and providing court visitors a higher level of service. In addition to state-of-the-art technology and essential security upgrades, Catonsville’s new courthouse will be energy efficient and is projected to achieve, at a minimum, LEED Silver Certification.
