Our Expertise

The US Courthouse in Pittsburgh contained 17 existing courtrooms, many of which were below standards for size, height, and security in contrast to the high quality and enduring value of the five original courtrooms. CGL’s conceptual approach provided for the addition of six new courtrooms in two stacks constructed in the light wells of the building. The new courtrooms serve as an opportunity to introduce separate circulation for judges and prisoners, and allow the most deficient courtrooms to be converted to other uses.

Our firm assisted with programming, planning, and layout design for all of the courts spaces. The project covered over 300,000 net square feet of courts agency space.

Recipient of a 2000 U.S. General Services Administration Design Citation.
