Our Expertise

CGL, as part of the Travis County Courthouse Development Partners (TCCDP), acted as the lead designer for the new Civil and Family courts facility. Having outgrown its previous space, Travis County formed a public/private partnership to construct a new 448,000 sf Civil and Family Court Facility including 25 courtrooms. The courthouse design is aimed at balancing transparency and security, embracing the surrounding community while serving as a symbol of justice.

To best serve the citizens of Travis County, the facility’s conceptual plan is positioned in a central location and features dedicated spaces for children to testify, a short-term child drop-off center for court users, separate and safe waiting areas for victims, a state-of-the-art law library and self-help center, space for attorney-client conferences, and a large multi-function room that can be used for public events.

The new Civil and Family Courts Facility design meets the Great Streets Development Program requirements by incorporating 18-foot sidewalks, tree plantings, benches, and bike racks around the entire site, creating an inviting and walkable pedestrian area.

Additionally, the new court facility features a street-level cafe within the building, fostering further development in the neighborhood.

The new courthouse facility opened in December 2022.
